Rishikesh is two pilgrimages in one town: the Ganga aarti at Triveni Ghat and Parmarth Niketan (sunset, reported ~6:30–7:30 PM summer / ~5:30–6:30 PM winter), and the adventure-and-ashram economy that made it the world’s yoga capital — rafting down the Shivpuri rapids, the Beatles’ 1968 ashram, and the suspension bridges (one closed, one replacing it) over the river.

The Rishikesh structure
The river splits the town: Swargashram/Ram Jhula side (ashrams, Geeta Bhawan, Chotiwala) and Tapovan/Laxman Jhula side (cafés, yoga schools) — with the bridges (foot-only) and ferries of the future connecting them. Triveni Ghat anchors the town side. Haridwar is 25 km downriver; the Char Dham road starts here.
