Ujjain

The essentials

The Sawan dimension

Ujjain’s Mahakal is the centre of North India’s Sawan devotion — the month’s Mondays swell the town beyond its capacity (2027’s Shravan is panchang-derived at ~19 July–17 August; the temple’s official Sawan arrangements come later). Sawan travellers should treat Mondays as peak days and book everything weeks ahead.
