The Triveni Sangam is where the Ganga and the Yamuna meet — with the Saraswati held to join them by tradition — and the district administration describes it plainly as the most important Hindu pilgrimage centre.

Bathing here is free, from the sand flats and ghats; the only spend is a boat to the confluence point, priced by negotiation. Checked 01 October 2026.

The Saraswati question, honestly

You’ll hear “three rivers meet here.” What’s verifiable: two rivers, visibly different tones where they run together. The Saraswati’s presence at the Sangam is tradition and belief, not something a guide can point to — we present it exactly that way, because pretending otherwise is how trust dies.

Doing the snan

  1. Dawn is the time — coldest, emptiest, best light; change-rooms and steps concentrate near the main ghat area.
  2. Boats: agree first. Route (to the confluence point and back), duration, price, and whether it’s shared or private. No official rate exists; the figures above are guide-listed.
  3. Mela days change everything — on the five snan days the crowd is the story; see the Magh Mela guide.
  4. Safe depths: follow the bathers, not the boatmen’s nudges toward deeper water; post-monsoon currents differ from winter’s.
  5. Stuff: keep a dry bag; footwear off at the water; nothing metal in your pockets.

With elders

The approach is flat sand and gentle ghats — easier than Varanasi’s steps. Boats require a step-down into the hull; take a wide, stable country boat and arms. The senior guide has the pacing frame.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Boats to the confluence point are negotiated (unconfirmed fare ranges above).

When is the best time for Sangam snan?

Dawn, any winter day; on Magh Mela snan days, expect enormous crowds.

Can we see three rivers?

Two are visible (Ganga, Yamuna); the Saraswati is tradition.
